THE DAKOTAS: THE COMPLETE SERIES
It was set in the period of the post-Civil War, and detailed the efforts of marshal Ragan and his diverse crop of deputies to maintain law and order in the vast, unruly Dakota Territory, and area which spanned both North and South Dakota. Although the scripts were tough and relenting, usually featuring one of the four cast members from week to week, many episodes featured two, three and on occasion all four law officers. The stories were basically a study in contrasts and they were tough and gritty. In one episode, one of the heroes privately attempts to strangle the life out of the villain. In another episode, one of the deputies falls in love with a girl, only to lose her because he chooses to do the right thing and apprehend her father. One deputy leaves a saloon only to return a minute later to gun the villains down. But even the villains were colorful. One of them (played by Lee Van Cleef), holds a woman hostage in exchange for money but only after he gets the money does he decide to kill the girl anyway! The series only lasted 17 episodes - it was cancelled by the network after protests from viewers because an episode featured a shootout in a church! Wait till you see such guests as Mercedes McCambridge and Telly Savalas. 9 DVDs, 17 episodes. $45.00

DARK INTRUDER  (1964)
This hour-long movie is unusual. Set in San Francisco in the 1890s, Leslie Nielsen stars as playboy sleuth Brett Kingsford, an expert on the supernatural and along with his dwarf assistant Nicola, he helps the police uncover the scheme of a Sumerian demon attempting to return to Earth and take over a human body. This was originally filmed as a pilot for a proposed television series entitled The Black Cloak. And get this - Alfred Hitchcock produced it! When the network said they would not accept the pilot, the footage was edited for an episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. This idea was soon scrapped and a year later, the studio decided to release it as a major motion-picture feature as part of a double feature.

Compare for yourself . . . if you are not frightened.

THE DOGVILLE COMEDIES
For anyone who doesn't know what these are, I'll explain very briefly. From 1929 to 1931, MGM produced a series of film shorts with little dogs playing the lead roles, dressed in midget costumes, and voiced by "name" actors. The plots were lifted from recent studio motion pictures, ranging from old-dark house murder mysteries to westerns to broadway musicals. They are laughably funny and highly sought out by film buffs. This 2-disc set includes all nine comedy film shorts. Over 2 hours of laughter!  $10.00

It's basically a poor-man's version of a Disney movie, but so many people apparently grew up watching this movie, which is extremely difficult to find anywhere.

FRED ALLEN AND GROUCHO MARX TV SPECIALS
Two hour-long television specials each narrated by a different celebrity.
"The Jazz Age" (telecast December 6, 1956) is narrated by Fred Allen. This documentary starts from the conception of Jazz music to the end of the era when the 1929 Stock Market plunge killed the last of the Jazz Age. "Merrily We Roll Along" (telecast October 22, 1961) is narrated by Groucho Marx. In what The Jazz Age did for capturing the decade of Jazz music, with rare footage, this does the same for the American Automobile Industry.

FRED ALLEN on FOUR STAR REVUE
Two hour-long TV classics from the days of "live" television broadcasting!
The first is FOUR STAR REVUE from 1950 starring Jimmy Durante and guests Eddie Cantor and Fred Allen. Fred Allen, the famed radio comedian, rarely did television. He despised the medium, so here's a chance to watch Allen at his best. The second feature is an episode of DON McNEIL'S BREAKFAST CLUB. Starting out as a radio program, this series expanded into television for a brief time and this marks one of the few episodes known to exist.

FROM HELL IT CAME (1957)
One of those classic late-night horror films that is so unique and different that most TV stations are frightened to play it. Why? Because the monster is so lame. A monstrous tree rises from the grave of a native chief's son, causing terror in a South Seas village. As walking tree movies go, this is the top of the list. If you're going to watch only one killer tree movie this year, this is the one you don't want to miss!
